      Rio Tinto Kennecott Visitor Experience

      Join Rio Tinto Kennecott for the inaugural season of the new Visitor Experience at Bingham Canyon Mine. Learn about the history of this amazing mine and see first-hand the gigantic scale of its operation, vehicles and artifacts. Discover how ore gets refined to become copper – an essential element in today’s technology. The Visitor Experience is dedicated to educating the public about the importance mining plays in modern life, safe mining practices and responsible environmental stewardship.Proceeds are donatedAll proceeds will be generously donated to the Kennecott Charitable Foundation, a Utah-based charitable organization committed to positively impacting the community since its inception in 1992.Reservations/shuttle timesVisitors must have a reservation for the day and should have tickets printed or available on a mobile device for scanning upon shuttle entry. Shuttles to the mine overlook depart from and return to the Lark parking area every 30 minutes. The first shuttle departs at 8:30am while the last shuttle departs at 3:00pm and returns by 4:30pm. Shuttle pick-up will be just outside the Bingham Canyon Lions Gift Shop in the Lark visitor parking area at 12732 Bacchus Hwy., Herriman, UT 84096. Access to the Bingham Canyon Mine overlook is only accessible by provided shuttle. Group reservationsGroups larger than 10 people must contact Customer Service through email at or at (801) 204-2007 a minimum of 10 days prior to the visit. Special shuttle access to the Bingham Canyon Mine overlook is required and must be scheduled in advance. Tour companies must also schedule in advance. Due to safety regulations, tour groups will need to use Kennecott provided shuttles. ADA accessibility and trained service dogsUpon request, shuttles equipped with two ADA compliant seats are available. These shuttles can be requested during the reservation process. The Bingham Canyon Mine overlook is also ADA accessible. Only trained service dogs are allowed on the Visitor Experience. A trained service dog is defined as a dog who has received training to assist those who are blind or have low vision, deafness or hard of hearing, diabetes, seizures, mobility limitations or other needs. Emotional support or psychiatric service animals are not allowed on the Visitor Experience at this time.Safety policiesSafety is essential to everything we do at Kennecott. We’re committed to protecting the health and safety of all our employees and visitors. All safety rules and policies must be followed. If you or anyone in your party is not following these rules or obeying posted signage, you will be escorted off site. Additional safety messaging will be provided on the shuttle to the Bingham Canyon Mine overlook. Minors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult You must use the Kennecott provided shuttles Children and adults must wear a seat belt while on the shuttle—car/booster seats are not required, and infants may be held in arms during travel Stay inside the designated visitor area (fenced or otherwise) at all times Use of drugs, alcohol or smoking/vaping are strictly prohibited Firearms, knives and other weapons are prohibited on all Kennecott property Unauthorized use of drones or professional photography are prohibited on all Kennecott property Bring water to carry with you during your visit; beverage vending machines are available near the gift shop, but not food service Sunscreen and hats or visors are recommended ReschedulingReservations can be rescheduled based on availability. Rescheduling less than seven days prior to anticipated visit may not be accommodated. Contact Customer Service through email at or at (801) 204-2007 to reschedule.Cancelation and refund policyIn the event of inclement weather or unplanned mine road closures a refund will be provided by means in which payment was received. If onsite, see the gift shop attendant. Cancelations must be made seven days prior to scheduled visit to receive a refund.
